How we verify a pressing

Every entry in the archive is researched rather than fan-compiled. The editorial team — four staff editors and a volunteer network of fourteen audio researchers across the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan — cross-references each release against at least three independent sources before publication.

    Primary source consultation

    Label archive records, mastering studio logs, composer estate papers, and original liner notes are consulted whenever available. For 87% of cataloged releases, mastering credits are confirmed against studio-side documentation rather than sleeve artwork alone.

  2. 02

    Cross-reference against established databases

    Each entry is matched against Discogs, AllMusic, MusicBrainz, and the Cartoon Music Database. Discrepancies — alternate catalog numbers, miscredited composers, regional pressings — are flagged for editorial review.

  3. 03

    Engineer and archivist review

    Our volunteer network includes working mastering engineers, label archivists, and collectors with documented access to original stamper matrices. Edge cases — particularly matrix-identification queries — are referred to this network before publication.

1984–1986

Walsh & DiCola: The Sunbow and Movie era

Robert J. Walsh scored the original 1984 Sunbow television series across 98 episodes, establishing the franchise's leitmotif-driven musical language. Vince DiCola extended that vocabulary for the 1986 animated feature, with cues later re-recorded and re-arranged across multiple international pressings. The archive documents every surviving master, every alternate mix, and the disputed cue attributions that have circulated since the late 1980s.

1996–1999

Beast Wars: Kraft, Sturrock & Duncan

The Beast Wars era produced some of the most cited electronic and orchestral hybrid scores in the franchise. 2007–2023

Jablonsky, Balfe & Bontempo: The live-action cycle

Steve Jablonsky scored the first five live-action films (2007–2017), with Lorne Balfe contributing additional music on Age of Extinction. Steve Mazzaro and Andrew Kawczynski continued through The Last Knight. Transformers One (2024) and Rise of the Beasts (2023) introduced Jongnic Bontempo and Brian Tyler as the franchise's contemporary voices.
